We are thrilled to announce the second of two winners for the 2021 Other Brother Studios Film Fund is Josh Rose.
Josh’s short film ’Sinnerman’ covers the important topic of sexuality and religion. It speaks to a so far unspoken part of the community and shines a light on the lonely struggles that some religious people are going through. Outside the context of religion this is a film about power; the power someone can have over another, the power of shame, the power of reputation within a community.
Josh’s script is a brilliantly written piece that we are keen to support. Josh wants this film to become a talking point in religious households so that families of all religious levels can become more aware of diversity within their own religion and ultimately more accepting of those different to themselves, silently struggling in the back rows of their temple.
Josh has been teamed up with mentor Tom Nicoll. Tom is a writer-director from Fife, in Scotland. His shorts have screened around the world, as has his micro-budget feature film Retreat. He has been a part of the Shorts2Features development scheme with Creative Scotland, a member of BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew, EIFF Talent lab, Stowe Story Lab and GoShort Talent Campus. Tom has also shot various pieces with Other Brother Studios through the years. Thank you Tom for lending your incredible talent to this project!
